If you've visited some of the more popular youtube channels and disney content creators you are probably more than aware of the mixed feelings around some of the more unique (and expensive) restuarants.

One of these polarizing places is Space 220.

Walking up to Space 220 entrance

On our last trip, Tiff, myself and our cousin were surprised to see a last minute reservation for Space 220 pop up during our Epcot day. Tiff has wanted to eat here since it opened, but we were never able to get in, so we jumped on the chance even though we had heard mixed reviews.

One of the first things I noticed when we checked in for our reservation was that the initial hostess gave us an introduction to the eatery and wanted to confirm with us that we were aware it was a $79 per person prefix meal. I didn't take offense to this but it definitely stood out as something that was probably such an issue that this had to be included.

Ambiance & The Space Elevator

Tiff taking in view of the void

Can't say anything bad about the Space Elevator or the ambiance of this place.

The theming was really cool and it did feel like we weren't in Orlando anymore. Tiff was surprised at how much smaller the restaurant was as that isn't easy to pick up on most video reviews we've seen. The giant "windows" were very cool to look at, but as our seat was a booth next to them there was a lot of the view that we didn't get to see as well. Nothing too big, but if you do go getting a seat further back would give a better view.

I was a bit cautious to see how empty the place was. When we were seated it was about half full and didn't get much fuller by the time we were finished.

The Food

Food

So, the food was alright, like just barely alright. It's not Pizzerizzo, definitely underwhelming and worth the cost of admission. It could have been what we ordered, or just an off day but from what we've read from other people's accounts it's more likely just par for the course.

To give you all an idea of what we ordered, for appetizers we each got:

  • Blue Moon Cauliflower
  • Wagyu Beef Carpaccio
  • Duck Confit

The Duck Confit was delicious as was the cauliflower. Our cousin ordered the Wagyu and found it good but surprised it was served on the cooler side of warm.

For our mains we ordered:

  • Slow Rotation Zero-G Short Rib
  • Galactic Miso Salmon (Cousin A and I ordered the same main)

Tiff's short rib dissolved before our eyes, it was so tender. But all three of our mains had the same issue, there was no seasoning to be found anywhere. Where the salmon was missing the miso and all salt, the vegetables that accompanied it found it and more to the point of being overseasoned. The experience at this point was lackluster, and while I appreciated a well-cooked main, the lack of flavor was a bummer.

One warning that we should have taken heed of when deciding our mains was that we have never heard other reviewers highly recommending any of the dishes as must tries aside from items on the lounge menu.

At this point we were not thrilled at the idea of dessert, but as it was included we ordered the following:

For our desserts we ordered:

  • The Astra
  • Carrot Cake
  • Blue Planet

Like everything else, this was lackluster. We've heard that most sit down restaurants had mid desserts so we weren't expecting much and these selections met that low bar.

Our Verdict

At this point it shouldn't be much of a surprise but this restaurant is all theme and sub-standard in substance. The cost for dinner at $79 per person is way over priced, and there are very few selections on the menu that could be combined to make it worth it.

For folks that value theme and atmosphere over everything else, this might be the perfect place for you. I can't say that I'd never try this restaurant again, Tiff and I have considered picking up a lunch reservation or a seat in the lounge to see if the selections are a better value.

As it is now, this restaurant is firmly a one and done. Not as bad as Toothsome, but that's nothing to write home about.
